ICED EARTH - Plagues of Babylon (Janvier)

North American metallers ICED EARTH have set "Plagues Of Babylon" as the title of their new album, tentatively due in October via Century Media Records. The CD will be recorded and mixed in between a string of European festival appearances this summer.

Songtitles set to appear on the CD (among others):

* Plagues of Babylon
* Democide
* Among The Living Dead
* The Resistance
* If I Could See You
* Peacemaker
* Cthulhu
* Parasite
* Rehashing the Same Riff Over and Over

Commented ICED EARTH founder/guitarist Jon Schaffer: "We are very excited about how killer things are sounding this early in the writing/demo process

Je persiste à penser que Framing Armageddon était un des meilleurs albums d'Iced Earth et ce qu'ils avaient fait de mieux de Something wicked.

J'aimerais bien les voir tenter quelque chose d'un peu plus audacieux que le gentillet mais assez inoffensif dystopia.

Ouais Dystopia c'était vraiment jetable, et perso ça ne m'a pas vraiment rassuré après la bouse Crucible of Man.
Donc qu'ils nous refassent un album avec des cojones, ou alors un truc ambitieux, mais pas un consensus bande-mou comme Dystopia.

A sa sortie, j'ai énormément fait tourner Dystopia, que je trouvais franchement excellent de long en large. Le meilleur du groupe. Point.

Y'a pas une semaine, je l'ai réécouté.

Mon attention s'est envolée peu après "Anthem". Et ce n'est pas la première fois que je le remarque. Le truc me lasse, d'une force... C'est d'autant plus étrange que je n'étais pas loin de le placer dans mes albums de l'année et que je le trouve toujours plutôt réussi, au final.
Sauf qu'un album réussi mais qui ne maintient pas l'attention, c'est problématique.

Bref, plutôt un gros moyen-plus.

Je n'attends rien du prochain mais je vais être content de le voir arriver quand même.

Un mec qui quitte Iced Earth, c'est un peu comme Charlie Sheen qui part en désintox, c'est un non-évènement.

c'est clair que ca y va les changements de lineup!
C'est dommage je trouve que Brent Smedley collait parfaitement avec Iced Earth.

Oui c'était le meilleur batteur qu'ils aient eu. Et celui qui est resté le plus longtemps !

Il faisait déja partie du groupe à l'époque de la tournée Dark Saga, n'avait pas pu jouer sur l'album Something Wicked mais été revenu pour la tournée suivante (c'est donc lui qui joue sur le mythique Alive in Athens), avant de repartir puis de revenir "définitivement" à partir de Framing Armageddon...
Schaffer l'a toujours présenté comme "le" batteur d'Iced Earth, son départ n'est donc pas si anodin.

Alive in Athens, c'était un bootleg coréen de quand ils ouvraient pour Christophe Mae ?

C'était pas un DVD officiel, le groupe s'était opposé à sa sortie.
Et Festivals of the wicked avait été enregistré sur... des festivals.

There’s a lot happening in Iced Earth world at the moment. We are just a few short weeks away from getting together in Germany to rehearse the new songs for the upcoming album “Plagues of Babylon.” We have a few weeks of rehearsal, then we start tracking the new album in between a string of festivals in Europe, and one in India, which we are all excited about, since it’ll be our first time there. Tracking will be done at a studio in Germany to try to keep the jetlag at a minimum. The numerous trips across the Atlantic during the Dystopia recording were a bit brutal, so we are doing it smarter this time. If we stay on target, you will have the new album in October! It’s a tight schedule, but we are intent on making it happen. I am very happy with the work so far, and it’s only going to get better when we are all together cranking it out.

Stay heavy my friends!

It's a bit of a different thing for us, because it's half of a concept and the other half is [standalone] tracks. Musically, I think it's just another step in the right direction. It's really heavy, it's very melodic. It has a really epic feeling. Even though there isn't, like, a monster, long epic track, the overall feel of the songs is very epic. I mean, there's no 'Dante's Inferno' or 'Gettysburg' or the 'Something Wicked' trilogy or something like that on here, but I'm really happy with it. I'm a happy conservative right-wing homophobic conspiracy nutjob redneck these days!"
