VELVET bassist Duff McKagan says that recordings exist of Taylor singing with the band. Asked about the speculation that Taylor was their man, McKagan told Music Radar, "We recorded a bunch of songs with Corey. I think he's fucking great. Whether he's in VELVET REVOLVER or not . . . I think he's the best voice of a new generation. The best rock 'n' voice out there. He's got a lot of positive energy. I'd be proud to do anything with him.' |

Time for Velvet Revolver reunion says Weiland
Scott Weiland believes the time is right for a reunion with Velvet Revolver.
The Stone Temple Pilots singer, who returned to that band after being sacked by the Guns n’Roses offshoot in 2008, wants to grab movie soundtrack opportunities he says they’ve been offered.
Velvet Revolver have been on hiatus since Weiland’s departure, with several attempts to replace him having failed to work out. Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor last year revealed he’d recorded nearly an album of material – but guitarist Slash wasn’t happy with it.
Weiland tells Rolling Stone: “I am completely open to it, and I know there are other guys in the band that are completely open to it.
“There have been some things that have stood in the way that aren’t anything to do with the band – other players, whether it be agents… But now we’re sorting through things.
“We want to start writing for some big film opportunities that have come our way, and try to set things up the way we set things up when we initially got together. I think it’s the perfect time.”
Weiland joined VR for a charity concert in January, with guitarist Dave Kushner suggesting it might open the door to a reunion.
But in May the singer announced he’d rejoined the band and was preparing for songwriting sessions with them, leading Slash to respond: “He’s out of his mind.” |

Slash hasn't given up on Velvet Revolver - and he's planning an audition with a potential singer soon.
But he admits that, even if the band decide to work with the unidentified vocalist, they won't be back in action for around two years.
Slash, Duff McKagan and Dave Kushner fired original singer Scott Weiland after a tension-fraught tour in 2008. He returned to Stone Temple Pilots, who fired him last year. And although VR reunited for a charity show at the beginning of 2013, Slash stated he'd never work with Weiland again.
The guitarist tells Lucas H Gordon: “I think we're going to audition a singer coming up, so there's that. But I'm gonna be out on the road for the next year and a half.”
A number of vocalists have been rumoured to be in line for the job over the past six years, including Slipknot's Corey Taylor – who revealed there was an album's worth of material on hand before work was abandoned.
Slash is currently finishing work on his third solo album, and he's gearing up for a US tour with Aerosmith.

Duff McKagan says he would consider fronting Velvet Revolver, but admits he'd rather bring in a specialist singer.
The bass player revealed the band – in which McKagan and former Guns 'N' Roses colleague Slash both star – are still looking for a replacement for Scott Weiland, who was sacked in 2008.
McKagan sings in his own project Loaded and wouldn't rule out taking over main mic duties in Velvet Revolver too.
He tells TotalRock Radio: "I would consider it, but I think it's the type of band that it's best if we have a lead singer. I like rocking with Slash. When we play, I like rocking with the guitar players and the drummer and being able to fly around.
“When I sing with Loaded, I can't move at all. I'm playing guitar and I'm singing. I wrote too many lyrics in the songs. There's just too many goddamn lyrics, and you can't ever move away from the mic, except when I jump into the crowd, and then the band's playing and I get back up and I have to sing more.”
According to McKagan, he and Slash have been put in touch with a number of potential frontmen, with one being particularly interesting – although it didn't work out.
He says: “We tried out a guy, actually, just a couple of weeks ago. A really good guy, good singer, but it just wasn't the right fit. I get e-mails all the time, 'Hey, check this guy out.' And we have internal e-mails going around.”
It appears the singer McKagan is referring to is the same person Slash spoke about last month. |
