About.com: You're already hard at work on the next MASTODON album. How's that coming along?
Dailor: It's coming along really good. We're just about done. I'm excited to get into the studio and start recording.
About.com: Have you been writing on the road, or do you wait until you're home and have some down time?
Dailor: The guitar players have been collecting riffs as we go while we're on tour. We have a little amp backstage and they'll jam on some stuff and record it and get bits and pieces together. Then when we get home and have time to write a record we can dump all those parts out and see what fits together and what sounds good and what doesn't.
About.com: Will it be out sometime this year?
Dailor: For sure. If we get it all wrapped up and everything is sounding great before we leave for Europe, it should be out by the end of summer. We don't mess around. But we'll see.

Putain, c'est vrai.
Et Grave Digger avait réussi à enchaîner Heart of Darkness, Tunes of War, Knights of the Cross et Excalibur.
Tous les espoirs sont permis, alors ! |

Guitarist and vocalist Brent Hinds seemed to take the reigns musically on the initial songwriting for 'Crack the Skye.' Is that the formula you're working with this time?
I think it's a little more collaborative, with everyone chipping in.
Can you describe the general vibe of the material so far?
It doesn't seem as proggy. There's moments, but it seems more riff-oriented. It seems a little more stripped down. [2004's] 'Leviathan' was a little more stripped down, and it feels like that to me. It seems like a really super-heavy Led Zeppelin or something. It has a lot of that [John] Bonham-esque groove to it, but really heavy and dark.
Do you have a producer in mind?
We do and he said he'd do it, but nothing's finalized and we still have to meet with some other people just to make sure. But for us, we don't need that much production. We just need to get in a room with somebody and hit record, and if they have some cool ideas, that's cool too. But I don't feel we lack any vision as a band. We usually have everything mapped out, as far as how the story line goes and what the visual imagery looks like. And that kind of plays in your head along with the riffage.
Is there going to be a concept for the record?
Yeah, totally. It's all worked out. I feel like it's a classic story about redemption. It's a mythology that's invented because we care so deeply as human beings for one another, it's hard to think that you just go into a hole [after you die] and that's it. So you want to see your loved ones be exalted in some way, or be a part of something that's much more grandiose. |

Atlanta progressive metallers MASTODON have set "The Hunter" as the title of their new album, which the band recently finished recording at Doppler Studios in Atlanta with producer Mike Elizondo. Drum tracks were previously completed in Los Angeles at the legendary Sound City Studios where NIRVANA's masterwork "Nevermind" was recorded.
Songtitles set to appear on the album include "Blasteroids" and "All The Heavy Lifting".
MASTODON drummer Brann Dailor described the new material as "a little faster, heavier, crazier… It's all over the place." MASTODON guitarist Bill Kelliher added, "It's a good representation of where we are. There's no 15-minute epic songs on there, but there's a lot of short bursts of energy going on. We recorded, like, 15 or 16 songs. In a week we did all the drums and we spent the next two and a half, three weeks doing all the guitars and vocals. We did it pretty fast and it sounds great." |

MASTODON has revealed more songtitles that will appear on band's new album, "The Hunter", tentatively due in October. The CD is expected to include the following tracks, among others:
* Curl Of The Burl
* Dry Bone Valley
* Blasteroids
* The Octopus Has No Friends
* All The Heavy Lifting
* Stargasm
When asked about the sound of MASTODON's forthcoming album, drummer Brann Dailor told the German edition of Metal Hammer magazine : "When you listen to the songs, they don't sound as 'fun' as we perceive them to be, I guess; it's still pretty extremely heavy material."
"We had a few songs that were kind of, not left over from 'Crack The Skye', but just stuff that we wanted to be on that album, but that album kind of took on a whole different thing of its own and there were a few stragglers that were super-heavy and crazy that didn't make it, and we finally got to put them on this record.
And then we wrote a whole bunch of brand new stuff. There's, like, 14 songs that we recorded. And it's sort all over the place — a lot of different sounds. Some straight-up classic-rock-sounding songs, straight-up death metal-sounding songs and some completely bizarre, weirdo rock songs that we're not really sure what they are, but we love them." |

Tout pareil que Fly.
Crack the Skye est extrêmement dense.

1. Blasteroids
2. The Octopus Has No Friends
3. Stargasm
4. Curl of the Burl
5. All the Heavy Lifting
6. The Sparrow
7. The Ruiner
8. Dry Bone Valley |
