GEOFF TATE'S QUEENSRYCHE - Frequency Unknown (23 Avril)

Il nous promet un album 100% Metawl (et la liste d'invités va dans ce sens).

Pour quelqu'un qui répète à longueur d'interviews qu'il aime plus le Metal, c'est cocasse. Il s'est sûrement rendu compte que c'était le seul moyen pour lui de vendre plus de 3 disques maintenant que ses anciens collègues avancent sans lui. Et puis son album solo de l'année dernière a été un four monumental.

Guitarist Craig Locicero (FORBIDDEN, SPIRALARMS) and drummer Paul Bostaph (SLAYER, TESTAMENT, EXODUS, FORBIDDEN) are among the featured musicians on the forthcoming album from the new lineup of the Geoff Tate-fronted version of QUEENSRŸCHE. The CD, which is currently being mixed by Jason Slater, is due later in the year via the Los Angeles-based independent label Cleopatra Records.

Says Craig: "Whelp, I guess the cat is out of the proverbial bag. Nikki Blakk [of the San Francisco, California radio station 107.7 The Bone] has announced that Paul Bostaph and I have played most of the music on Geoff Tate's QUEENSRŸCHE record. It is being mixed by Jason Slater as I type this and it is WAY HEAVIER then most anyone is expecting!

"Geoff and Jason have been nothing but awesome to us and it gave Paul and I a chance to contribute together on a metal record once again. I was working on it for a few weeks and play on every song. There are kick-ass solo contributions from Dave Meniketti [Y&T], Ty Tabor [KING'S X], Brad Gillis [NIGHT RANGER], K.K. Downing [JUDAS PRIEST] and Chris Cannella. As well as bass played by Rudy Sarzo and more drums from Simon Wright. It's some great company to be around and it was an honor to be a part of it.

"I know what the perception of the QUEENSRŸCHE camp is and I really don't give a f*ck. QUEENSRŸCHE was one of my favorite bands from the EP through 'Operation: Mindcrime'.

"When I was approached about doing the record, I did contemplate all of the turmoil, but I love a challenge. I accepted the challenge and think Geoff has a kick-ass record to deliver the fans...in spite of what some may expect. The songs are cool, classy and in some cases really heavy!

"So there you have it. I am not in QUEENSRŸCHE, SPIRALARMS is still my baby with a killer record to be released very soon. So Geoff has a touring lineup ready to go this summer. I'm simply stoked to have put some my riffage in the mix with once of heavy metal's most recognizable and classic voices."

Although a lineup for Tate's QUEENSRŸCHE was originally announced in the fall of 2012, things have changed. The band will now feature Tate along with bassist Rudy Sarzo (OZZY OSBOURNE, DIO, WHITESNAKE, QUIET RIOT), guitarist Kelly Gray (QUEENSRŸCHE 1998-2001), keyboardist Randy Gane and new additions, guitarist Robert Sarzo (QUIET RIOT, HURRICANE) and drummer Simon Wright (AC/DC, DIO, RHINO BUCKET).

Wright takes over for previously announced drummer Bobby Blotzer, who will be returning to RATT as an integral part of the band that made him famous.

Beginning in early April, Tate's QUEENSRŸCHE will be hitting the road to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the band's epic 1988 release, "Operation: Mindcrime", performing all fifteen songs from the album along with other well-known hits and rarities from the catalog they've compiled over the past 30 years.

"I try to surround myself with the best players available and feel our longtime fans deserve nothing less," says Tate. "I expect the forthcoming effort to be one of our best yet."

Ah ah, je comprends mieux l'alerte erronée concernant le sujet Queensryche maintenant.

Pour ne pas changer, ça sera bien évidemment son album le plus violent et un vrai retour aux sources (quitte à se foutre de la gueule des fans, autant ne pas faire dans la demie mesure).

Honnêtement, ce "divorce" pitoyable aura au moins permis de relativiser les lavages de linge sale chez Nightwish.

Maintenant, il va vraiment falloir que Queensryche sort un album excellent ou au moins correct (ou Geoff, soyons fous) pour que les fans arrivent à digérer ces 15 dernières années d'albums pourris et ce psychodrame risible.

Je me demande si le "F.U" de la pochette ne serait pas qu'un acronyme du titre mais aussi un tacle à ses anciens collègues... vu qu'il leur bave dessus en permanence depuis un an, ça me surprendrait pas.

Je note avec délice le choix des reprises du Queensryche originel pour un album qui se veut bien plus heavy que ce que l'on pourrait supposer. lol

Comme je suis curieux, et un peu maso, j'écouterai l'album à sa sortie.
Allez savoir, ça sera peut être bien.

Je note également que nous ne sommes que deux à participer à ce merveilleux topic. Serait-il envisageable que plus personne ne croit en ce bon vieux Geoff ?

Dans le fond, je m'en contrebranle à un point, de la carrière de Tate, t'as même pas idée.

De mémoire, il n'y a eu qu'une procédure en référé et les deux groupes peuvent utiliser le nom jusqu'en novembre 2013, qui devrait être la date du jugement sur le fond.

Et donc ça m'intéresse encore moins que sa carrière solo, qui est plus pop et donc plus libérée. Là, il risque de faire du heavy metal de base au kilomètre.

The Geoff Tate-fronted version of QUEENSRŸCHE has just hit the road to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the band's epic 1988 release, "Operation: Mindcrime", performing all fifteen songs from the album along with other well-known hits and rarities from the catalog they've compiled over the past 30 years. Do you really hate "Frequency Unknown", the new album from the Geoff Tate-fronted version of QUEENSRŸCHE? Have you already blogged about it online? Well, metal geeks, if you've got the balls to stand behind your opinion, then here is the contest for you.

Stop hiding behind your computer keyboards and smart phones and show Tate and his record label, Deadline Music/Cleopatra Records, how much you hate "Frequency Unknown" by submitting your "video rant" to them via YouTube video. Start by giving them your real name on camera and proceed to rant away. Geoff Tate will film himself choosing the best video rant and will post online for your enjoyment. The winner will receive an all-expenses paid trip to Seattle, Washington to see QUEENSRŸCHE in their hometown on June 29, along with VIP special guest seating, meet-and-greet passes for after the show and a merchandise package worth $250 that he or she can feel free to either burn — or wear in style!

Contest rules:

1. Video rants must be submitted via YouTube and contestant must state on camera before beginning the rant: "My name is (real first and last name per ID and/or passport) and this is my video submission for the QUEENSRŸCHE "best rant" contest — or video will not be considered.

2. All video submissions must include a link to: www.cleorecs.com or video will not be considered.

3. Please limit your rants to the music and production of the album "Frequency Unknown". Personal attacks/personal threats on QUEENSRŸCHE bandmembers and family members will not be tolerated. Any video submissions that cross the line will be denied and possibly reported to YouTube for violation of YouTube policies (seriously — wives and children are off limits!)

4. Content of the video rant must be limited to the QUEENSRŸCHE "Frequency Unknown" album as released by Deadline Music/Cleopatra Records on April 23, 2013 and not on any previously released QUEENSRŸCHE or Geoff Tate solo albums.

5. Contest limited to ages 18 and up only.

6. Deadline for submissions is May 10, 2013.

Je l'ai écouté distraitement hier, ce frequency unknown.
A vrai dire, je suis assez déçu parce que ça n'a pas l'air d'être la catastrophe annoncée.

C'est globalement médiocre et les lignes de chant de Geoff alternent entre le bon et le vraiment moyen mais il y a 4 ou 5 morceaux qui semblent plutôt écoutables si ce n'est bons (surtout en fin d'album).

ça semble, en tout cas, plus écoutable que l'ignoble Dedicated to Chaos.

En revanche, s'il y a bien une chose de sur, c'est que ça n'a quasiment rien à voir avec du queensryche musicalement.

encore en studio, Geoff Tate arrive à peu près à donner le change, par contre, sur les vidéos live qui trainent sur le net, c'est bien plus difficile...

J'aime bien la façon dont ça a été monté afin de faire passer les mecs pour des trolls à 2 ronds, alors que certaines des critiques étaient posées et largement étayées. On est loin des mecs qui braillaient "It sucks balls" dans tous les sens à la sortie du dernier Morbid Angel.
Et les plans sur Tate... plus le temps passe, plus ce mec me parait absolument détestable.

Avec tout le respect que je lui dois (même s'il commence sérieusement à me saouler!), il ferait mieux de se concentrer sur le travail de son chant et apprendre à composer des morceaux (au lieu de faire appel à des compositeurs extérieurs ou à affirmer qu'il a composé la plupart des morceaux de Queensryche alors qu'il n'en a écrit que les textes) plutôt que de vouloir partir en croisade contre tout le monde!
La musique n'est pas une guerre, mais perso mon choix est fait entre un groupe qui se concentre sur la musique, ne se prend pas la tête, ayant trouvé un chanteur talentueux et sympathique, et un mec avec un égo démesuré.
