Dave Grohl has returned to the drumkit for Queens of the Stone Age, Josh Homme has confirmed.
The Foo Fighters mainman is currently working on the band’s sixth album, after previous incumbent Joey Castillo’s departure. He replaced Grohl in 2002 following the recording of QOTSA’s breakthrough release Songs for the Deaf.
Now Homme, who collaborated with Grohl and Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones in Them Crooked Vultures, says things have come full circle.
He tells the BBC: “We parted ways with our drummer, Joey, who I love dearly. Dave is playing drums on this record as well, in the studio.
“He and I have this wonderful musical relationship we don’t have with other people and it started with Songs for the Deaf. Here it is three records later, and the feeling is the same.
“It was more about the search for something classic. If we’re going to do this I’d really like to put everything I have into it and make it a record somebody can really fall in love with.
“It’s a very cool and comfortable position. That kind of energy is everywhere. You almost have to wipe it off at the end of the day.”
It’s not yet known if Grohl will tour with QOTSA, although he recently confirmed the Foo Fighters were on hiatus. Homme’s band are scheduled to make their first-ever appearance at the UK’s Download festival next year. The album is expected to be released before the event in June.
Meanwhile, Grohl’s documentary movie Sound City is nearing completion and is due for release soon. |

Machine Head must exit their current North American tour with Dethklok, All That Remains and Black Dahlia Murder due to matters completely beyond their control.
Frontman Robb Flynn must have emergency surgery. Flynn had planned to go under the knife in January after completing the tour as he has been playing through the pain of a double inguinal hernia since the tour started in October. He had hoped to continue the tour despite extreme discomfort, but it's become too difficult to continue on. Flynn will undergo surgery tomorrow, Wednesday, November 14 in Minneapolis before returning home to California to recover, rest and recuperate. Machine Head will rejoin the tour in Portland, OR.
Machine Head extends its regrets to fans, the other bands, and the other crews for having to leave the tour prematurely.
Below is Flynn’s statement about his health and the tour.
“I've been toughing out an inguinal hernia below my waistline since June of last year, and a few months ago got a second hernia in my nuts. What basically happens is my guts drop into my nuts, and it looks like I have a third testicle (man, I can hear the jokes already!) It hasn't been that painful, and I've gone to the doctor a few times to take care of it, but he said after surgery I probably couldn't sing for a few weeks, and since that wasn't going to happen, I scheduled it for January when I had a break.
Unfortunately, after the last few shows, my guts have been very swollen and hard to push back in. Yesterday, the pain was excruciating and I went to the emergency room last night. They said that I need surgery.
I will be doing my damnedest to rejoin the tour in a couple weeks. Thanks to all the fans, bands, and crew for understanding. I'm determined to see you all soon and finish what has been a great freakin tour!"

Sérieusement, je vous hais les mecs.
J'ai écouté Overloaded de Blackrain, histoire de pas mourir idiot, et je souffre physiquement de ce que je viens de m'infliger.
A la base, j'aime pas le glam mais me taper 4mn de leurs geignements, de leurs effets moisis, de visuels stupides et de paroles récupérées dans les fonds de tiroir de Cindy Sander m'a stressé pour la journée. J'ai envie de taper sur quelqu'un. Vite.

A PALE HORSE NAMED DEATH, have confirmed a late spring 2013 release for the follow up to their critically acclaimed debut And Hell Will Follow Me via SPV Records. The band has once again commissioned famed artist Sam Shearon AKA Mister-Sam (Rob Zombie, Fear Factory, Rammstein) to create the artwork for the as yet untitled album. Frontman Sal Abruscato gave an update on the album: “The sound has evolved and become a bit more orchestrated. More harmony work has been done on this album, including new elements such as a Hammond B3 organ and piano. To me the album has an even darker sound and feel than the first one.” He continued, “The new album is a natural progression in song writing and vocals yet keeping continuity with the first album musically and artistically. Fans of our first album will find all the traits they love melded with even bigger production and mastering. Ted Jensen of Sterling Sound will be mastering the album.”
More information will be released in the coming weeks.

According to The Pulse Of Radio, ALICE IN CHAINS guitarist Jerry Cantrell has confirmed to Guitar World that the band has finished recording its fifth studio album and second without original vocalist Layne Staley. The new disc will follow up 2009's "Black Gives Way To Blue", which ended a 14-year gap between studio efforts for the group and featured singer/guitarist William DuVall. Cantrell said, "In my opinion, that record stood up to anything else we've put out in our career and this new one is right up there, as well."
